Research Interests: Experiences of marginalized groups; Lesbians and their partners in the Canadian military; Infants' understanding of human behaviour

I completed my basic research project under the supervision of Carmen Poulin and Lynne Gouliquer. The focus of the project was lesbians and their partners in the Canadian Military. Specifically, we examined the effect of the military's former official discrimination against homosexuals on the social, physical, and psychological health of lesbian servicewomen and their partners. This is my third year working for Carmen and Lynne as a research assistant and I have worked on a variety of projects in addition to my basic research project, including a family violence project looking at the community and medical response to victims of family violence in rural New Brunswick.

I also have a many other research interests. For example, I completed my Honours Thesis under the supervision of Dr. Barb D’Entremont in the area of developmental psychology. My thesis focused on infants’ understanding of adults’ intentional gestures. I am currently in the process of completing my BA and applying to graduate programs in Clinical Psychology. I hope that my future research will combine as many of my research interests as possible. For example, I would like to combine my interest in developmental psychology with my interest in the experiences of marginalized groups. For example, I would be interested in looking at whether communities provide appropriate support and services for adults with developmental disabilities and their families. I would also be interested researching the experiences of gifted children who are in a minority group (e.g., visual minority or sexual minority) or researching the experiences of gifted girls and/or women.
