Information for Prospective Students
In my research, I have explored the following areas:
- lesbians and gay men and the Canadian military
- marginalised women (e.g. Aboriginal women, women in corrections, women with disabilities,
mothers of children with disabilities)
- female sexuality
- violence against women
- the menstrual cycle
- women and criminality

Students are involved in my research in a number of capacities. At the undergraduate level, I supervise both third-year Basic Research projects and fourth-year Honours Projects. Most undergraduate projects involve examining previously obtained interview data.
At the graduate level, typically, I accept students to work with various populations of women. My orientation is feminist; therefore, students have to be comfortable with such a perspective when exploring various research questions. I also hire undergraduate student and graduate students (grant money dependent) to work on my projects.

Students who work with me learn about the various epistemological traditions and their influence on research methodologies, the role of society on experience and on cognitive schemata, and depending on the particular project they are working on, they may be exposed to multi-disciplinary and feminist action research. They develop research interview skills and become familiar with related ethical issues. Most of the students who work with me learn to analyse qualitative data and in the process, become familiar with computer software designed for this purpose. Other skills my students become familiar with are slideshow presentation packages.
